# Coocine

An identity and website for a film cooperative

Art direction, brand identity and web design2026

Coocine is a film cooperative in Santa Elena, Colombia, where people share knowledge, spaces and resources to make cinema. I designed its identity and website around that collective way of working, and photographed members for the directory. The direction gives the cooperative a recognisable presence while keeping its people and films at the centre.

## A shared frame

The camera frame became the starting point: a simple boundary that brings different perspectives together. I enclosed the name in brackets and kept the wordmark restrained. It gives the cooperative a shared signature without imposing a visual style on the films it supports.

Choosing Archivo was also a conceptual decision. Its open-source licence reflects the cooperative’s commitment to solidarity and shared resources. Its sturdy letterforms give the name presence; the same family brings continuity to the website.

I took the palette from the experience of watching a film: the black of the screening room and the mustard yellow of subtitles. Black gives the images space; yellow guides the eye towards the places where visitors can take part.

## A brand others can work with

I translated the identity into a brand manual: clear space around the logo, a typographic hierarchy and layouts for screenings, workshops and residencies. The frame stays recognisable while the film, the date or the programme takes the lead.

## An open house for cinema

The website had to convey both a place and a way of working. The opening shot situates the cooperative in its landscape; the rest of the design turns that invitation into clear routes to a residency, a service or a collaborator. I used generous images, direct typography and a restrained palette to hold together its different activities.

## Many faces, one collective

The portraits bring the cooperative’s identity back to the people who give it meaning. I photographed members outdoors, with the landscape as a shared setting. Black and white and a consistent framing unite the series, while gestures, clothing and expressions preserve each person’s individuality.

## From a face to a collaboration

On desktop, the portrait grid presents the collective at a glance. On mobile, it narrows to a browsable sequence with individual profiles for each member’s practice, films and contact details. I kept the portrait scale consistent so the shift in screen size preserves an equal presence for each person.
