# Süddeutsche Zeitung

The Odyssey: A Complicated Man

For Süddeutsche Zeitung’s essay on Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey, I created the opening illustration and three vignettes for print and digital. The images place Odysseus among the women who shape his journey. The case brings together the early drawings, finished illustrations and published article.

## Finding the image

The early drawings explored the visual world of the Odyssey through its emblematic objects and characters. In one image, women weave Odysseus’s figure from threads, making visible the people who sustain his journey.
